We should’ve scored more

-

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson says his side should have punished Hamilton more ruthlessly in the derby on Saturday.

The Steelmen ran out 3-1 winners against ten-man Accies, and while Robinson is pleased with progress, he says his side have a lot to learn.

He said:“we dominated the whole game. I actually thought when they went down to ten men we took our foot off the gas slightly, but our decision-making was very good.

“The pleasing aspect for me is that we totally dominated, and there should have been more goals if we had been a little bit more ruthless, but the win was thoroughly deserved.

“We weren’t the worst team in the world because we lost to Hearts, and we’re certainly not the best team in the world after beating Accies – what we’re doing is progressing, and there were some very good performances.

“They’re a young side, they don’t understand sometimes you just have to manage the game and slow it down, or speed it up, whatever it may be.

“All of our success was built on being solid and not conceding goals, and I think I’m right in saying Hamilton had one shot on target, so that shows how dominant we were at the back, and we have that creative spark.

“We’ve scored in every game bar the Livi game, so we just have to make sure we get the fine balance right.”

Richard Tait and Jake Carroll missed the game at Hamilton due to illness, and Robinson said:“when you’re throwing up and have a high temperature on the Thursday it’s very difficult to produce your best on the Saturday, so I made that call for them, but it gives me a hard decision to make on Saturday.”
