A Bothwell man has been caught with indecent images of children for the second time.

Ryan King was jailed for 18 months in 2015 for sending obscene messages and pictures to an 11-year-old girl and possession of child porn.

Now he has admitted downloading 273 indecent photographs and six video clips depicting children being abused.

King, 25, a prisoner, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

Scott King, prosecuting, said police went to the family home in Wordsworth Way, Bothwell, in July last year after getting information about illegal computer activity.

Two laptops were seized at that time and indecent material was found during analysis of them.

Mr King told the court: “Initially, inquiries focused on other family members, but shortly afterwards King met a social worker and admitted he was responsible for the images found.”

The accused’s solicitor, Laura Kiernan, stressed that he had “co-operated fully” with police after being made aware that family members were under suspicion.

She added: “He made full and frank admissions.”

When he was sentenced in 2015, it was stated in court that King – a talented musician – was considered to be “at high risk of sexual re-offending”.

As well as being jailed, he was put on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period. He was on licence following his release from prison when he offended again.

Sheriff Thomas Millar deferred sentence until November 1 for background reports and a risk assessment.

King, who has been in custody since May 2, will remain behind bars until then at least.
