Vics put seven past Whitletts, but stay sixth

-

Blantyre Vics came out on top of an 11-goal thriller at home to Whitletts Vics, but it hasn’t moved them from sixth place in the Mcbookie.com West League Championship.

However, the 7-4 win has helped their goal-difference, which is now at +12, and they’re also three points clear of seventh-placed Arthurlie.

Vics also have at least one game in hadn’t over everybody above them, and a win in that could shoot them up to third place.

The hosts led 5-2 at half-time of an eventful game.

Lewis Macdonald got the first of a hat-trick in 11 minutes.

Simon Eeles got his first goal for the club in 22 minutes, and Macdonald scored again four minutes later.

Gavin Millar bagged Blantyre’s fourth in 28 minutes, and Macdonald wrapped up his treble in 34 minutes.

That seemed to rouse Whitletts, and Stewart Davidson pulled a goal back in 38 minutes, before Robert Paterson bagged a second from the spot in 41 minutes.

Whitletts came out for the second half with their tails up and Tom Donovan scored in 52 minutes, before Robert Patterson reduced the deficit to just a goal in 55 minutes.

Blantyre got back on track in 79 minutes when Ross Caldwell netted a penalty, and Gavin Millar made sure of the points with a seventh goal eight minutes from time.

Shotts similarly stayed in fourth place despite their 3-1 win at home to Cambuslang Rangers.

However, it kept them four points off the top, and with everybody around them picking up points, the win kept them one ahead of fifthplaced Kilsyth, who have played two more games than Shotts.

Jordon Love got the ball rolling in 15 minutes and netted his second and Shotts’third from the spot in 57 minutes, with Paul Mcgeough making it 2-0 two minutes into the second half.

Dougie Ryan pulled a goal back for Rangers on the hour-mark.
