Roadworks in town centre

-

It is possible that some nighttime total closures, particularly at the M74 off-slips, may be required to facilitate safe working – though these are to be kept to a minimum.

Drivers using the A723 and M74 Junction 6 are advised to allow some additional time for their journeys.

Billy Troup, Scotland Transerv’s bridges manager added: “This programme of work is being scheduled for delivery with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.

“Across South West Scotland, we’re working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly and safely as possible.”

Live trunk road information is available by visiting trafficscotland. org, or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter. Additional project information is available on the Scotland Transerv website. A main Hamilton town centre road is set to be closed for major resurfacing works.

South Lanarkshire Council will carry out the works from Cadzow Street’s junction with Leechlee Road to its junction with Muir Street from 7am on Sunday, October 13, until 4.30pm on Saturday, October 19.

To enable the work to be undertaken safely, that stretch of Cadzow Street will need to be closed and all traffic will be diverted east along Cadzow Street, Keith Street, Palace Grounds Road and Muir Street.

Access for businesses and residents will be maintained where possible.

Traffic approaching from Auchingramont Road should travel southwest to Union Street, southeast along Union Street and north along Leechlee Road to join the diversion.

Councillor John Anderson, chair of community and enterprise resources, said: “While we will make every effort to accommodate residents, some disruption will be inevitable and we would be grateful for the co-operation of anyone affected during these essential works.

“We would request that all road users allow additional time for journeys that would normally involve the use of this stretch of Cadzow Street during the dates indicated and that they plan their journey accordingly.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that may occur during these vital road improvement works.”
