The big sleepout
Over 70 pupils and staff from Hamilton College completed a night sleeping outdoors in support of the Bethany Christian Trust.
The experience allowed everyone to appreciate the conditions that rough sleepers across Scotland face all year round.
Funds were raised for the work of Bethany, who care for homeless and vulnerable families.
And Hamilton College said that everyone embodied the school’s values of compassion and reflection as they experienced and considered the plight of others in society.
The school were pleased to be joined during the evening by Angela Crawley MP, who represents the Lanark and Hamilton East constituency, and by school chaplain Jonathan Davie.
Ms Crawley said: “Great to join the pupils and staff at Hamilton College School for their ‘Big Sleep Out’.
“I was very impressed by the pupils’ dedication and fundraising efforts, braving the rain and cold to raise funds for Bethany Christian Trust.
“It’s brilliant to see the whole school community fundraising to raise awareness of their work with vulnerable and homeless families across Scotland.”
Head boy Rahul Sinha, who also participated in the sleepout, said: “It was a hard and eye-opening experience. It has shown me how fortunate I am and has given me an opportunity to reflect on all the opportunities I’ve been given.
“Thanks go to everyone who donated to our fundraising efforts and to Sainsbury’s Hamilton and Morrison’s Hamilton, who kindly supported us with refreshments for the evening.
“Our current fundraising total stands at £3474. Thank you to everyone who has donated.”
And he added: “If you have not been able to, and would like to donate towards our fundraising total, please visit our page at www. justgiving.com/campaign/ Hcbigsleepout.”
