A blooming great job from Bonnie Blantyre

-

Volunteers from community group Bonnie Blantyre were “shocked” to receive, for a second year running, a top Keep Scotland Beautiful award.

There was double reason to celebrate in the town after they received a Silver Gilt and also secured the Keep Scotland Beautiful award.

Volunteers from Bonnie Blantyre attended the 53rd annual Beautiful Scotland awards, held in Dumfries, recognising community groups working to improve the places they care for.

Bonnie Blantyre burst onto the Beautiful Scotland scene in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength over the past year, led by Susan Lindner Kelly.

There is an array of wonderful voluntary groups and resources in Blantyre including two It’s Your Neighbourhood groups, TACT Healthy Park and Friends of the Calder, as well as the community council, the community committee, Blantyre Telegraph, Blantyre Heritage Group and the Blantyre Project to name a few – and all of which helped contribute to this award.

Susan Lindner Kelly told the Advertiser: “To say we were shocked is a total understatement.

“This award means so much to us. It’s awarded to the entrant that demonstrates consistency, significant progress from the previous year and particular commitment to the Beautiful Scotland campaign pillars.

“These awards are for all of us – for everyone in our town who does their own wee bit to make Blantyre bonnie.

“We have many amazing voluntary groups who go over and above to take care of our town.

“We’ve also got many, many individuals who go about, quietly caring for our town.

“A big congratulations to our neighbours in Uddingston and Bothwell, Uddingston Pride and Brighter Bothwell, who again have achieved great results and done their towns proud.”

And she added: “It’s lovely to be surrounded by so many wonderful, likeminded people.”
