BB concert has charity in mind

- GREGOR FARQUHARSON

A huge concert will take place in Motherwell next month, raising money for autism and mental health charities.

Taking place on February 29 at Dalziel St Andrew’s church, the concert is organised by the Lanarkshire District Fellowship (LDF).

The LDF is a collection of the four battalions of The Boys’ Brigade in Lanarkshire, including those in East Kilbride and Strathaven.

There are four acts playing on the evening and all proceeds will go towards charities HOPE for Autism and You are My Sunshine (YAMS).

Appearing on the night are The Pipers of Lanarkshire, who are all members of the LDF.

Also performing are The Jolly Bs, who are the troubadours of the Stonehouse Male Voice Choir.

The award-winning Wishaw and District Brigade Band will appear on the night also.

The band were crowned champions at the Scottish Bands Contest and British Traditional Class competitions last year and boast over 50 years’ experience.

The star act is Mr Mark Hindley of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He is a talented conductor and organist and also performs with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

David Sneddon, Chair of the Lanarkshire District Fellowship said: “Staging a concert like this is a first for the LDF and we are all hugely excited about it.

“We chose the charities for a number of reasons, but mainly because, like us, they do great work in Lanarkshire.

“Hope for Autism is a charity that the BBS in Lanarkshire has worked closely with before and because we work with young people, Hope have been very generous in assisting us and training us to allow us to better work with young people with Autism.

“YAMS is a mental health support and advice hub based at Brannock High School.

“Mental Health, particularly for the young men we work with, is an important topic and we look forward to working closely with YAMS.”

The LDF work with over 2,000 young people in 48 Boys Brigade Companies across Lanarkshire, as part of the world’s oldest uniformed youth organisation.

Tickets are available to purchase for £5. Send a return SAE with cheque payable to Lanarkshire District Fellowship Boys’ Brigade to: LDF, c/o 3 Patna Court, Hamilton, ML3 9NJ.
