Athletes run for the West

-

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club athletes represented West of Scotland at the Inter-district Cross Country Championships in Stirling recently.

The athletes were selected in October as a reward for their hard work and dedication, following a tough – but exciting – start to the cross country season.

The race was run in wild, wet and windy conditions, and everyone had their work cut out over the gruelling course.

At under-13 level, Joscelyn Kennedy finished 41st in the 3k race in a time of 15.02 minutes.

Under-15 runner Jessie Gilchrist finished her 4k race in an impressive 26th place with a time of 16.40 minutes.

Fiona Currie (under-15) finished in 66th place, in a time of 18.41 minutes.

At under-15 level, Oscar Logan had a superb run in his 4k race, finishing in 20th place with a time of 14.53 minutes, winning team silver with Teamwest.

Craig Cherrie and Logan Whitton, both competing for Law and

District, finished in 38th and 69th, respectively.

Donald Gilchrist, at under-17 level, finished his 6k in 37th place with a time of 21.54 minutes, followed by Finn Milligan in 78th place.

Last to race were the under-23 and senior men, over an 8km course.

By that point the mud, rain and wind were making conditions hard going, and Richard Beattie finished in 150th place, in a time of 39.21 minutes.

James Gillon, under-20, had also been selected to take part but was ill and unable to complete the course, despite making a brave effort.
