Teenager scores debut goal in cup romp
Young striker Andy Winter admitted he nearly passed up his chance for a debut goal – but decided to try his luck.
The 17-year-old scored the fourth in a 5-0 William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round win over Edinburgh City on Saturday, after climbing off the bench in the second half.
And he said boss Brian Rice told the team to treat it like a Premiership game so they would avoid an upset.
Winter said: “I just remember the ball coming to me, taking a touch in front of me, and I saw the defender coming up, so I had to take it back onto my left foot.
“I was initially going to cross it, but then I thought at the last minute to just go for it and it went in, so it was quite good.
“The gaffer knows I’ll score goals in the reserves and I’ve just got to try and do the same thing in the first team.
“It’s hard, it’s a lot more difficult, but you’ve just got to keep your head held high.
“I just need to keep my head down and keep working.
“I know there might be chances this season, and if another one does come along I’ve just got to be ready to take it.
“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing, and hopefully things will take care of themselves.”
