Cops crack down on under-age drinkers

- with Inspector Roger Bond

This week your Local Problem Solving Team (LPST) officers carried out joint action plans with the British Transport Police and community wardens at known areas of disorder.

This joint approach utilised mobile and static CCTV operators directing plain clothes and uniform officers towards suspected crimes and offences.

One particular result, during the week, included a 25 year-old male being arrested after allegedly being involved in a suspected drug deal caught on camera.

He attended court the following day and was charged with a number of offences prior to being remanded in custody.

An additional four alleged Misuse of Drug offences were detected over the weekend as a result of similar intelligence-led stop searches within Hamilton town centre.

The continued monitoring of regular offenders by LPST officers identified three individuals who have since been reported for allegedly breaching their bail conditions.

We are still in the process of tracing a number of intoxicated underage youths in possession of alcohol (ranging from alcopops to a bottle of sherry). In the coming months you will see an increase in focus on this type of problem, with the police working alongside our partner agencies to try and reduce the number of underage young people gaining access to alcohol, either as a result of proxy sales or from family and friends.

Within the Uddingston area we recently experienced an increase in the number of parked cars having the windows smashed in order to allow the offenders the opportunity to rummage through the vehicle or steal items on display.

Police are currently reviewing CCTV images of potential suspects. Please contact the police immediately if you see any suspicious activity.
