Meeting for guild
Lanarkshire Family History Society will learn about Hamilton Mausoleum at their next meeting.
Members will gather at 7pm in the Glo Centre, Motherwell, on Thursday, February 13.
And the speaker will be Peter Kerr of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture.
A spokesperson for the society said: “Peter is best known as the specialist and tour guide for Hamilton Mausoleum, but he loves to delve into the history of the Douglas-hamilton family during the 19th and 20th Century.
“As an enthusiast of aero history, he describes himself as the ‘house aeroplane anorak’ with a fascination for the flying stories attached to the Douglas- Hamilton family, especially the debunking of the Rudolph Hess connection.
“His talk will centre on the lives and adventures of Douglas, the 14th duke, his three brothers and son Angus, the 15th Duke. These will include wide-ranging stories from the first flight over Mt Everest, boxing, the aero dog flights over Malta during WW2, elephant conservation and the lost Grand Prix circuit in the Low Parks, Hamilton.
“A warm invitation is extended to all who would like to hear this fascinating talk.”
