Freezy does it as kids have an ice time naming gritters

-

A pun-tastic array of names are now displayed on South Lanarkshire gritters thanks to pupils from across the area.

Council bosses launched a competition last year for primary pupils to come up with the best names.

They include Gritter Thunberg, Lewis Caploughdi, Oh Plougher of Scotland, Spready Mercury and Salt Disnae.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Road Safety Forum, Councillor Julia Marrs, was delighted with the results and said: “Well done to each and every one of the children for their absolutely brilliant and very clever names.

“Some of them really did think outside the box and it’s fantastic to see how creative they have been.”

The children were all invited to Canderside Roads Depot in Larkhall to have the chance to see the gritter they named up close – and of course to get their photograph taken next to it.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “It was great to see the look on the children’s faces when the gritter drove up with the name they had chosen on the side of it.

“I’m sure they will love being able to point them out to all their friends and say – ‘I came up with that name’.”
