FAMILY GUY JOINS ACCIES

Templeton aims to help fire Hamilton up the table

David Templeton signed up for a second spell at Hamilton Accies on Friday, and the club benefited from him being a family man.

The birth six weeks ago of Templeton’s son Rhen prompted him to request an exit from English League One side Burton Albion.

And Accies beat the transfer deadline to bag the fans’ favourite for a second time.

Templeton revealed that boss Brian Rice played a big part in his decision to return to the club, but he was just grateful that chairman Ronnie Macdonald wanted him back.

The 31-year-old winger said: “It wasn’t a difficult decision to come back, to be honest.

“I’ve just had a little boy not long ago, so I was wanting to be back up the road to be with him. It was easy enough. I was here before and enjoyed it the last time, so it was easy for me to sign again, and thankfully the gaffer and Ronnie Macdonald wanted me to come. Hopefully I can do well here again.

“I came in and spoke with the gaffer. He spoke really positively about how we were going to play and how we were going to play for the rest of the season.

“I thought it sounded like what I could fit into, so hopefully I can do well for the rest of the season.

“I was a bit of a fans’ favourite here and the plan is to keep that going – hopefully I don’t tarnish what they liked!

“I want to come here and do well, but the main thing is to help the team. If I can do well and help them, then I’ll be happy.

“I’m here to try and help as much as I can, whether that’s starting games or coming on. I’ll look to try and help the boys, try and get wins, and obviously get the club safe again.”

Temps knows Accies face a tough task just to stay in the Premiership and hoped last night’s clash at St Mirren (Wednesday) could kick-start things again.

He said: “It’s the same every season. It’s always the teams that are going to be round about you, those are the games you have to win, and on Wednesday it’s massive for us.

“We want to go there and win the game and get ourselves going in the league.

“The challenge is massive, we know what is ahead, and we’re looking forward to it.”

Templeton doesn’t regret his decision to join the Brewers in 2018, and said it was something he felt he had to do.

He said: “It was a good experience. I just wanted to try England before I retired, so I thought I would go down while I had the chance, and it was enjoyable.

“I played under a good manager [Nigel Clough] and I enjoyed my time there.”
