Teen yob’s stab attack threat

-

A teenager caused alarm at homeless units in Hamilton and East Kilbride with threats to carry out stabbings.

The 17-year-old male admitted charges including possession of a knife, assault and threatening or abusive behaviour when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the first incident happened at the Blue Triangle premises in Clydesdale Street, Hamilton, during the evening of March 5 last year.

He told the court: “Staff saw the accused had taken a large knife from the kitchen.

“He was agitated and angry, saying he was going to attack an individual who lived in Rutherglen.

“The accused headed towards the train station and British Transport Police were alerted.

“He was seen to emerge from a train at Rutherglen. Officers arrested and searched him. They found nothing, but a knife was recovered from the train compartment he had been in.”

Four months later the youth was a resident at Y People Pathways in Kittoch Street, East Kilbride.

Around 6pm on July 18, staff noticed he was becoming “increasingly irate”.

Mr Thomson told the court: “He appeared to be in dispute with another resident who had been knocking on his room door.

“Staff tried to calm him, but he shouted ‘I told you to keep him away from my door. You are not doing your f...… job. If he comes near my door again I’ll stab him. I’ll stab you and f...… everyone.’”

Fellow resident Dylan Buchanan intervened, but the youth grabbed him by the arm and stamped on his lower leg and foot. Fortunately, no injury was caused.

The youth also admitted breaching a bail curfew.

Sentence was deferred until March 10 and he had his bail continued.
