Doctors cancel appointments
Doctors’ surgeries across Lanarkshire have been informing patients that their appointments are cancelled.
As the coronavirus crisis heightens, some practices in the county have made the decision to close to the public for routine appointments for the time being.
Bothwell Medical Centre issued text messages and letters over the weekend saying all routine appointments at the surgery have been cancelled due to coronavirus.
The text went on to say they would be open for emergencies only, and urged people not to attend the practice unless instructed by a health professional.
Wellhall Medical Centre and Low Waters surgeries, both in Hamilton, also issued their cancellation notices, among several others.
Dr Sharon Russell, associate medical director of South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “GP practices are independent practitioners and will take steps as necessary and appropriate to protect their workforce and patients in a developing and unprecedented situation. South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership/nhs Lanarkshire are working closely with all practices in Lanarkshire at this time to offer guidance and support so that they are triaging patients appropriately.
“If you have reason to believe you could have coronavirus (COVID-19) do not attend your GP practice or other healthcare setting in person.
“You should stay at home, self-isolate and contact your GP or NHS 24 (111) by phone.
“It is crucial that people follow the most up-to-date healthcare advice, which can be found on the NHS Inform website.
“We have also created a dedicated section on the NHS Lanarkshire website, with links to lots of official information and advice, and are sharing information through our social media channels.”
