School branded‘disgusting’after‘deep clean’
A South Lanarkshire school has been called“disgusting”after photos emerged on social media allegedly showing the results of‘deep clean’.
Lanark Grammar had been closed over the weekend after a case of coronavirus was confirmed at the school.
NHS Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire Council made the announcement late on Thursday that the school would be closed on Friday, March 13, to allow for a deep clean to kill the virus.
One concerned member of the public took to Facebook to highlight the“filthy”school.
She said:“lanark Grammar had a confirmed case of the coronavirus on Friday and got shut down and everyone was told that it would be getting a‘deep clean’.
“This is now Monday and this is the state of the school, does this look like a deep clean to you all?
“Even one of the teachers said:‘i don’t know what they’ve cleaned this place with as it’s filthy.’
“Disgusting !!!! (and that’s only some parts of the school).”
However, South Lanarkshire Council have said the main aim was “specifically”to“eliminate any virus or bacteria present”. Other residents reacted angrily ,with one saying: “Kinda hope most kids aren’t at school.”
A spokesman for South Lanarkshire Council said:“the cleaning of Lanark Grammar School on Friday and Saturday was specifically designed to eliminate any virus or bacteria present.
“This was done by a team using special equipment and chemicals which provided a deep sanitisation of all surfaces and touch points throughout the school.
“This deep clean was thorough and achieved the intended outcome, and that is why the school was re-opened as normal on Monday.
“The school has a programme of ‘regular’cleaning which would deal with general issues such as those highlighted in some photographs being shared on social media.”
