Tree-sy does it kids!
Brighter Bothwell, together with Uddingston Pride and Keep Scotland Beautiful, are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.
And to mark the milestone, on March 2, South Lanarkshire Provost Ian Mcallan planted a commemorative tree in both the village and town.
In Bothwell, he was assisted in the tree-planting ceremony by two pupils from each of the two primary schools – Bothwell and St Bride’s.
The young people were representing the future generations who will watch this tree grow and flourish.
Marjory Robertson, chair of Brighter Bothwell, told the Advertiser: “Both schools are involved with Brighter Bothwell activities and we enjoy working with them. We hope that as, like the tree, these pupils and their friends grow and flourish in the years to come, they will maintain an interest in caring for Bothwell’s environment. They are our volunteers of the future.”
Prior to the Bothwell ceremony, the provost started the morning by planting a tree in Uddingston, followed by both groups coming together for a small celebration in Bothwell Evangelical Church.
Others present on the day included staff from South Lanarkshire Council’s
Grounds Services Team, staff and pupils from local primary schools, Councillor Kenny Mccreary and Juliette Camburn of Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB).
