Parly hails action group

-

A motion has been lodged in the Scottish Parliament praising the work of Bothwell and Uddingston Community Forum and Action Group during the coronavirus pandemic.

Scottish National Party MSP for Uddingston and Bellshill Richard Lyle logged it in response to the group’s work in the village and town.

It stated:“that the Parliament recognises the work of Bothwell and Uddingston Community Forum and Action Group over the Easter weekend 2020, when its volunteers delivered Easter eggs to many in their community.

“Notes that this was in addition to the group’s ongoing work during the fight against COVID-19, which has involved delivering food parcels and prescriptions to those most in need; believes that community work such as this in Bothwell and Uddingston in response to the outbreak is testament to the people of Scotland’s wider response by acting as one community during this challenging pandemic, and offers its thanks to all such groups for the important work they will be doing in the days and weeks ahead.”

Allan Stewart, who set up the group, has been praised heavily by those in the community for his work throughout the Covid-19 outbreak and for keeping spirits up at such times.

He received news of the motion in an email on Friday morning and said:“I never done this for any recognition, it was simply to bring joy to over 20,000 residents in Uddingston, Bothwell , Viewpark and all other G71 postcodes.

“It was a shock too hear about the motion and I really appreciate Richard Lyle MSP for doing that all the same.”
