A cutting-edge tribute to heroes of the NHS

- LEONA GREENAN

Neighbours living on a Blantyre street have proven to be a cut above the rest when it comes to honouring our NHS heroes.

Brian Neil, 51, paid homage to the county’s NHS staff by mowing a huge ‘Nhs’into the grass patch between Sutherland Street and Millheugh

Place, High Blantyre.

And neighbour Del Morrison, 33, was happy to help with the grass-cutting.

The pair thought it was the perfect way to show their support for everyone working within the NHS, putting lives at risk daily during the coronavirus pandemic.

Butcher Brian, who works at D&J

Butcher’s in High Blantyre, explained: “I noticed Del was out cutting one of the neighbours’grass one day due to the council not being able to attend and that’s when I came up with the idea of cutting a huge NHS onto the grass outside my girlfriend’s house – near to Del’s.

“So we got to work and thought it looked great – in fact those passing usually stop for a look or to take pictures.

“Del’s been doing a great job upkeeping the work as well.”

Brian says the inspiration behind the grass cut is because his girlfriend and Del’s dad’s partner both work in healthcare.

He added:“both my girlfriend and Del’s dad’s partner work in a care home for the elderly, not within the NHS but still we wanted to show our appreciation to all the frontline and key workers for their outstanding work during this pandemic.

“And quite simply we wanted to make the neighbours smile a little as well, and we can assure everyone this was done with strict social distancing.”
