Community rallies to raise funds after delivery driver is injured

Almost £8000 has been raised in less than 24 hours after a delivery driver was left with serious injuries following an incident in Hamilton.

It’s alleged that the DPD worker, 45, was injured while dropping off a parcel in the town’s Portland Place at around 12.40pm on Tuesday.

And now a Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the key worker.

As the Advertiser went to print yesterday afternoon the page had reached £7910 – far surpassing the original £250 target.

DPD confirmed that a serious incident had taken place involving one of their drivers. A spokespers­on for the delivery firm said: “We can confirm that a DPD driver was involved in a serious incident in Hamilton on May 19, and that we are currently helping the police with their investigat­ion. Our team will continue to provide every assistance with the investigat­ion and if we are able to comment further in the future we will.”

Police say that a man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokespers­on for Police Scotland said: “Police were called about 12.40pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, to a report of a disturbanc­e in Portland Place, Hamilton. A 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstan­ces and anyone who witnessed this and has not yet spoken to officers is urged to contact police on 101 and quote incident 1481 of 19 May.”
