NHS choir are back on song to raise spirits of others

-

Thanks to the wonder of modern technology, NHS Lanarkshire’s staff choir is back – and singing another song of hope and love.

For their second lockdown-based performance, the talented troupe remotely recorded the song You Raise Me Up.

Their performance is accompanied by photos of family members showing their appreciation for essential workers by displaying rainbows.

This comes hot on the heels of their widely praised performance of classic tune Lean on Me, which even won the seal of approval of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Gillian Evans, nurse and improvement advisor and member of the staff choir, said:“we were blown away by the reaction we received to our first performance of Lean on Me.

“An amazing 230,000 people have now viewed our song and I hope that they have been touched by the words.

“Our virtual choir continues to provide wellbeing support to all of our members throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We decided to continue this support to each other by virtually joining forces again, to perform our new classic.

“We are extremely grateful to our musical director Rebecca Keay and to Dylan Mclean who compiled the video.

“Without them, the performance would not have been possible.”

Gillian Mulholland, consultant gastroenterologist, added:“our performance of You Raise Me Up is another dedication to family, friends, colleagues and patients during these difficult times.

“Although we are not seeing our loved ones face-to-face at the moment, many of us are becoming closer than ever before thanks to our efforts in keeping each other positive, happy and supported during lockdown.

“Modern technology never fails to amaze me; it has enabled colleagues, friends and families to stay in touch and maintain close bonds.

“And now, again, it has enabled a group of colleagues to remotely join together in a bid to lift the spirits of others.

“I hope all who listen to our latest performance, gain a sense of togetherness from it.”
