- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

A man has been charged with the murder of Larkhall dad-of-two William Wardrop.

Officers received reports of an injured man at a house in the town’s Riverside Road at around 2am on Friday, May 22.

The 23-year-old was rushed to University Hospital Wishaw where he tragically died a short time later from his injuries.

Dale Gardiner, 23, of Larkhall, appeared in private on petition at

Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday charged with Mr Wardrop’s murder. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

He is set to make his next appearance at court within eight days.

Tributes have poured in for the young father and William’s family have been left devastated by his death.

They said: “William was a much-loved dad, brother and fiancé who will be sadly missed by us all. He will remain forever in our hearts.”

Now friends have rallied

in support of William’s fiancée Caitlyn and two young boys.

A fundraising page has been set up to assist with funeral costs and to help his family.

The Gofundme page has now surpassed its original target of £1000 and more than £3000 has been raised.

The post reads:“as many of you are aware William Wardrop passed away tragically on the 22nd of May.

“Unfortunately, he has left behind his beautiful fiancée Caitlyn and his two gorgeous little boys and the rest of his family. I would love to raise money to help towards his funeral costs and to help Caitlyn and the boys in any way I possibly can.

“William was one of the nicest boys you could ever meet and he would do anything for anybody no matter who you were, he had an absolute heart of gold.

“My heart goes out to Caitlyn and his full family at this horrible time.”

A balloon release in William’s memory is also set to take place in Larkhall at 6.30pm on Friday.

A charity car wash has also been arranged from 9am to 6pm on May 30 at the Wash car wash in Strutherhill.

A post on social media states:“on Saturday, May 30, come up get your car/van washed and help us out by raising money to give this amazing boy the send-off he truly does deserve.

“Every single penny made on this day will be donated to Williams Gofundme page.”

Detective Inspector Frank

Travers said: “I would like to thank members of the community for their co-operation and assistance during this investigation.”
