I’ve got with them.”

Davies has been around the block in England, with spells at Tranmere, Derby, Bristol, Bradford, Sheffield United, Rochdale and two stints at Blackpool.

Hamilton was his first foray north of the border and after twice helping them keep their place in the Premiership, he insisted Accies helped him fall in love with the game again.

“When I joined, I’d sort of fallen out of love with football and it was a challenge that cropped up for me – and I’ve loved every minute of it,”he said.

“The last day of last season, staying up was an amazing achievement, and even this season.

“It’s not happened the way we wanted, but I think we showed in the last two games we played, we could get the results we needed to stay in the league. I’m really proud to be leaving the club when they are in a place they want to be, and I wish them all the best for the future.

“As well as playing, I was going in helping Darian Mackinnon with the under-17 team.

“Me and Darian get on very well and George Cairns came up with the idea that I take the strikers in Daz’s team.

“That was something I was really enjoying until things stopped, so the club will always be really close to me.”

Davies hopes he will be able to tie down a new deal close to home soon.

He added:“i’m going to continue to play, but I need it to be somewhere close to me. The main aim for all of this was to leave on good terms and know that Hamilton are in good hands.

“It will be one of the first results I look for when football restarts.”
