Farewell to Samaritan Georgie
Volunteers from Lanarkshire Samaritans came together at their premises in Hamilton’s Selkirk Place last week to say goodbye to Georgie Jack.
They applauded her cortege as it passed on Wednesday, June 3, on its way to South Lanarkshire Crematorium.
Georgie was a volunteer with Samaritans for 21 years and was still actively involved with the organisation when she became ill in January.
She not only took calls but was involved with the branch outreach team, visiting many schools in Lanarkshire to raise awareness of the work of Samaritans.
Georgie was also a founding member of Friends of Samaritans, working in Shotts Prison tea bar raising funds for the Hamilton branch.
A spokesperson for Lanarkshire Samaritans said:“georgie was an inspiration to us all.
“She embraced the many changes organisations must adapt to and encouraged younger Samaritans to become part of the decision-making processes required to sustain the Lanarkshire branch.
“On Wednesday it was good to see many newer Samaritans joining current and ex-volunteers saying goodbye to a highly-regarded and much-missed colleague and friend.”
