Law athletes put their spare time to good use

-

Law and District Amateur Athletic Club stars have been keeping busy with training and virtual competitions while normal competition is on hold.

And the last week in May saw three of the club’s youngsters take part in an international Virtual Shot Put competition, as well as the next round of Scottish Athletics virtual Superteams competition.

Valhalla Academy, based in York, organised an online shot put competition, providing the throwing community an opportunity for 200 athletes from around the globe, whilst raising money for NHS charities.

Under 17 athlete Shannon Gough took part, finishing in 11th place with a best throw of 10.70m. Under-15 allrounder Jade Gray was 8th with a new personal best of 10.85 and Erin Gough was 20th in the under-13 event with a new PB of 5.08m.

At the same time, some of the club’s younger athletes were taking part in the latest Scottish Athletics virtual SUPERTEAM round.

The first round was a 75m shuttle run and round two was a target event with athletes throwing socks – something a bit different – into a basket from five metres.

Under-12 star Andrew Kay managed to lose some of his dad’s socks over the neighbour’s garden fence, but senior athlete Rich Beattie proved to be an ace target shot with a good score of 9/20.

Meanwhile, Law athletes Darran Muir and son Ryan were selected by Scottish Athletics to demonstrate all four of the Superteams challenges and their videos have been shared to all clubs throughout Scotland.
