Winger looks to further his career after exit

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

Mickel Miller says his next move is going to be about his career rather than chasing a pay-check, after leaving Hamilton.

The 24-year-old winger is on the look-out for another club and has been linked with Hibs and Dundee United in Scotland, and has options in England.

Miller signed from English non-league side Carshalton Athletic in 2018, and says it’s just time to move on.

Wherever the Englishman ends up, he says it’s more important for him to be playing regularly and to make a name for himself.

Miller, who has joined the likes of Alex Gogic, Aaron Mcgowan, Steven Davies and George Oakley on the way out, said: “Nothing against Hamilton, but I just feel that I had done my time there.

“It was a good club, and a good platform for me, but I just want to really test myself, to see if I can push on.

“It would have been nice to stay, but I wanted something different, a change, a test and a new challenge somewhere else.

“I’ve got a couple of options up in Scotland, I have a couple down south, but I think I’ve got to wait, think about where I want to be. Where I go next is very important, and if I’m going to play, and stuff like that. It’s all about ‘career’ at this point.

“If you ask a lot of players they might say ‘where’s the next paycheck’ but that’s definitely not the case. I want to play as much as I can, that’s the only way you’re going to improve.

“At the end of my career I want to be able to say I’ve given it my all and played at the highest level that I could.”

Miller says he has fond memories of his time at New Douglas Park, like beating Rangers 1-0 at Ibrox, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the club to other players.

He added: “Everyone knows Hamilton is a place where we’re always down there fighting, but that’s what has made my mind-set so strong. Wherever I go, there’s going to be nothing that will be harder than it was at Hamilton!

“We know how to grind wins out, we always know how to pull through, so it has been a really good learning curve at Hamilton.

“I came right out of my comfort zone by moving from down south to Scotland, and that was a tester.

“Some days were better than others, I had my ups and downs.

“There are loads of memories at Hamilton and going to places like Ibrox and beating Rangers is one to take with you for the rest of your career – not many people can say that.”
