DRIVE-THRU OPENS

- MATT BRYAN

A Hamilton local captured unique drone footage of hungry residents flocking to Mcdonald’s as it reopened last Wednesday.

The video shows a mass convoy of cars queuing all the way round the retail park next to the Hamilton Palace Grounds.

Callum Wyper, 20, decided to get creative when he was furloughed at the start of lockdown.

He’s since been travelling around on his bike collecting hovering shots of some of his favourite areas.

But when he realised how many people would flood the drive-thru at Mcdonald’s, he couldn’t resist showing everyone how mad the fast food craze looked from up high.

He also managed to snap some photos from the towering angle.

Callum said: “I think a lot of people went down to try and get a photo to show they were one of the first people down at Mcdonald’s when it reopened, but it probably isn’t really necessary. Since the start of lockdown, I was furloughed so I’ve just been going about on my bike doing some filming.

“The drone’s quite compact so it just folds up and goes in my bag. It’s been keeping me busy.”

Normally working as a bartender in Carrigan’s, Blantyre, Callum has now been filling his time cycling and seeing places from a whole new angle.

He added: “I’ve only had the drone a couple of months and use it for going up to Chatelherault Park and around Strathclyde Park, things like that.”

In order to allow for social distancing, Mcdonald’s opened with fewer employees in kitchens and service areas.

There is also a limited menu – no breakfast, wrap or milkshakes – with reduced hours in place (11am-10pm).

And customers are being asked to limit their spend to £25 and use contactless payment.
