another at two, both times he was in intensive care. He was diagnosed at 18 months with asthma, so it’s been a struggle since that age, and it’s held him back from certain things, but he’s starting to get better and it’s under control because he sees all the consultants and is looked after well.

“Last year was a hard year and Glasgow Children’s Hospital were amazing.”

Kind-hearted Caleb has been keeping in good spirits and was more than happy to part with his hair for such a good cause, supported by his proud family and generous donators on his Justgiving page. But his good deeds haven’t stopped there during lockdown.

“He saved up his own money and wanted to donate to Hamilton District Foodbank as well”, Stacey continued. “He wanted to buy lots of sweets for kids that don’t have much right now so I went and done that during the food shopping. He’s a wee soul.

“He has been through a lot. I’m so proud of him, honestly, I was almost crying. He’s done so well, it’s been great.

“I think the kids need the help now more than ever, especially when they’re not getting as much interaction it helps things like the clown doctors, and things to look forward to and keep them happy. It’s just that wee extra special thing they have which the kids all look forward to.”

Caleb’s hospital experience was made easier thanks to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’s Play Programme.

To help with his fear of having bloods taken, Caleb attended the charity’s Teddy Hospital. Through structured play therapy with the play specialists there, children are able to become more familiar with their condition by examining and treating their teddies using real and toy medical equipment.

Mum Stacey said: “It’s fantastic the support that the charity offers to families. The ladies at the Teddy Hospital were amazing and helped Caleb learn to relax by showing him that what won’t hurt teddy, won’t hurt him.”

Kirsten Sinclair, chief operating officer at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “During this challenging time, it is always humbling to hear about our young supporters going above and beyond to make a difference. We are incredibly grateful to Caleb for his outstanding fundraising efforts.

“We rely entirely on donations and fundraising to allow us to continue supporting young patients like Caleb during their darkest days with our charity-funded Play Programme and Family Support services. The public have shown such tremendous generosity for our young patients and hospital heroes over these challenging months, and we hope that beyond Covid-19, we can continue to count on this invaluable support.”
