Grass warfare erupts as readers have their say on social media

-

Hundreds of our readers took to the Advertiser’s Facebook page to give us their views on the issue of grass-cutting.

Many felt that more should be done to make the town tidier, while others felt that it should only be done when it is safe to do so.

And some reckoned that the long grass was great for wildlife in the area.

Fiona Belk posted:“the open-plan gardens are wild. I’ll need to pay someone to do my front garden as I’m not fit to do it myself.

“There are going to be mice and rats everywhere soon. It’s happening all over in South Lanarkshire, it’s shocking.”

Andy Brankin said:“it’s great for wildlife and the environment.

“Let’s keep it wild the way nature intended and use the saved resources to upgrade our public parks.”

Anne Mcdade wrote:“it’s pathetic people are moaning about the grass, we are trying to come back from a pandemic, get a grip. People have died and you are moaning about grass.“

Arlene Allan Dunn posted: “I don’t understand how private factors have managed to maintain their grass areas and South Lanarkshire haven’t?”

May Mccaig Straiton said:“hamilton was bad enough before lockdown. Now it’s a disgrace.

“Everywhere overgrown. Even trying to walk anywhere is a challenge!”

Stacey Campbell Adams posted: “Definitely should be cut. It looks terrible.

“Don’t understand why it has not been done before now as gardeners have been able to work all lockdown.”

Marjory Munro said:“the junction leaving Duke Street Larkhall onto the dual carriageway of A72 is always dangerous, crossing the carriageway to access the M74 North bound, even more so at the moment. Cars routinely drive straight out without stopping.

“The road signs are dirty and overgrown with shrubs and trees. Very dangerous when a driver can’t see a give-way sign leading into an A road.

“It’s so overgrown in this section of road that the approach to the junction is very dull and dark. Anyone else seen near-misses and crashes here?”

Debbie Mcmillan added:“it’s a disgrace how bad it is. My neighbours have cut the grass in our street. Council tax rebate?”

Allan Collumb said: ”I’m trying to work out why council tax wasn’t reduced at all, but yet the work your council tax pays for was seriously reduced.”

Ian Kennedy posted:“people still dying. This should be the least of our worries . If it does your head in that much, take down a lawnmower. Make it your furlough project.”
