Cop appeal after deliberate van fire damages Strathaven house

-

Police in Strathaven are asking for help to trace a man after a van was deliberately set on fire.

The incident happened around 1.50am on Monday (July 13) in the Kirkland Park Avenue area with the blaze also damaging a house.

Emergency services were called to reports of a van on fire whilst parked in the driveway there – fire and rescue officers attended and extinguished the fire.

Whilst substantial damage was caused to the vehicle and the house, officers have confirmed no one was injured as a result of the incident, which is now being treated as suspicious.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Clark said:“we are appealing for information from members of the public relating to this deliberate fire.

“Thankfully no one was injured as a result of this reckless act, but I would like to stress how dangerous wilful fireraising is and discourage anyone from setting a fire deliberately.

“Know that officers will always investigate any reports robustly and thoroughly.”

A man thought to be around 19 or 20-years-old, dressed all in black, was seen leaving the scene in a dark vehicle at speed.

Det. Sgt. Clark added:“if you saw anything suspicious in the area or have any information about the man seen leaving the scene and have not already contacted police I would urge you to do so as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101. Information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
