Skateboards and stunt scooters gifted to youngsters

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

Kids in Hillhouse were wheelie excited last week when they were gifted stunt scooters and skateboards from a community group.

The Monday Club, which is run by the Harvest Church in Hillhouse, received funding in order to help provide 50 stunt scooters and 50 skateboards to children who attend the clubs in the area.

The youngsters were delighted to pick up the free gifts and were quick to try them out.

Sammy Brown, children and families worker for the Harvest Church, said: “When COVID-19 struck and we went into lockdown in March, our services had to stop.

“Not seeing our kids for months has been tough. We normally see up to 100 children each Monday night but seeing most of them on Thursday as they picked up their scooters and skateboards was the best day, one of the best things to come out of lockdown.

“We are a church with a heart for our local community; to see the joy on their faces was priceless.

“We are looking forward to getting back into the kids’ club to see all our kids and families again . It’s something we can’t wait to see.”
