Margarita is the toast of the town

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

A Hamilton care home made sure one of their residents had a 100th birthday to remember.

Everyone at Lornebank had a very special reason to celebrate with Margarita Mcaspurn on Saturday, July 11.

But, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the home had to mark the occasion a little bit differently.

On Tuesday, art supplies were given to each of the five units for the residents to make birthday canvases for Margarita.

They created colourful and illustrated birthday messages for her party on Saturday.

For extra fun, the home turned the canvas challenge into a competition – and the Linden Lee unit were the winners, scooping a box of shortbread.

For Saturday, it was all hands on deck to decorate Lornebank’s lounge for Margarita’s birthday.

She enjoyed music, a beautiful cake and many cards and presents from loved ones.

Margarita also received a lovely message from the Queen congratulating her on her 100th birthday.

In line with COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, Margarita was greeted by her family in the car park.

Her family gifted her a blanket with pictures of her favourite memories to celebrate her 100th year.

Daniel Jenks, Lornebank’s home manager, said: “It was great watching Margarita celebrate her birthday with her family and the staff here at Lornebank.

“Despite these difficult times, we wanted to make sure Margarita still had a great celebration for her 100th birthday.

“Lornebank’s staff really came together to ensure that Margarita had a wonderful day, and thought outside of the box to make sure it fit with COVID-19 regulations.”
