Welcome cash boost for gymnastics club
A Hamilton sports club is set for a welcome cash boost thanks to National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.
Hamilton Gymnastics Club will benefit from a cash grant of £4433, thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund in partnership with sportscotland.
The group will use the funding to expand their gymnastics and trampolining provision for children with additional support needs by providing new inclusive classes alongside their mainstream programme.
Head coach at the club, Ruth Gibson, said: “We are one of the largest clubs in Scotland, offering classes to over 1200 individuals in six disciplines of the sport.
“We currently offer two disability classes each week but the demand for more classes is huge.
“This much-needed funding will allow us to expand the provision of classes for this section to include more general gymnastics classes and also introduce trampolining and display.
“Lockdown has been really tough for all our gymnasts but we feel it has been extra difficult for children with a disability who thrive with routine, familiarity and discipline.
“When we get the green light to return to activity, we will ease them in gradually and offer new, exciting and inspiring classes to try to engage them further in our sport. We can’t wait for that day.”
The funding comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland – a quick and simple way to access small National Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000.
A spokesperson for National Lottery Awards for All Scotland said: “This is National Lottery money making a real impact in communities across the country.
“The variety and scope of each of the groups receiving funding showcases the wide range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
