- LEONA GREENAN

Hamilton Accies Football Club confirmed this week that three players have tested positive for Covid-19.

Those who returned a positive test are all now self-isolating and all other members of the team and staff have been notified.

After the announcement from the club on Tuesday, first team and academy player duties were suspended for 24 hours and further tests on all players and staff were organised as a precaution.

The club also closed their Accies’ Community Café for the 48 hours to undertake a deep clean throughout.

It is understood NHS Lanarkshire and the Scottish Football Association are aware and track and trace is being carried out.

A club statement: “Hamilton Academical FC can confirm three positive Covid-19 test results. Those affected will now self-isolate in line with Scottish Government and (Scottish football’s) Joint Response Group guidelines for 10 days. As a precaution, firstteam and academy operations have been suspended for today whilst we deep clean the building.

“We will return to normal business tomorrow with further tests planned for all players and staff.”

■ Hamilton Accies confirmed last Thursday, (September 10), that first team player Lee Hodson was to self-isolate for 14 days.

Defender Hodson, on loan from League One side Gillingham, has been required to stay at home since Tuesday, September 8, as a result of being in close contact with a player from another club who has tested positive for Covid-19.

The club issued a statement last Thursday which read: “We can confirm our player has tested negative on Monday.

“However, since there has been close contact he is required to self-isolate in which Lee fully understands this.

“We would like to make it clear that Lee has followed the appropriate measures and medical advice.

“We send our good wishes to the other player involved for a speedy recovery.”
