Comeback win shows Accies are up for fight

- Andy Mcgilvray

Davidtempleton says Hamilton Accies’comeback at Livingston shows they are up for the fight this season.

Accies bounced back from Shaun Want’s own goal in the opening minute to win 2-1, with Templeton bagging his first goal of the season before sending a free kick in for Kyle Munro to head in a late winner.

Livingston were overwhelming favourites before a ball was kicked on Saturday, but Templeton says the character they showed proves Accies are up ready to battle it out this season.

He said: “I think the club is used to being written off and has always thrived on it. Last season when I was here it was the same, everyone writes you off, and the more they do that the more we want to shut people up and keep ourselves in the league.

“Getting results like this shows we’re up for the battle again to keep ourselves in this league.”

Templeton said it was a deserved win in West Lothian, and was pleased to show a bit of flair on the pitch.

“We knew at the start that it was going to be difficult,” Templeton added. “We had to win the battle first, hopefully as the game went on we’d get it down and play, and I think that happened at times.

“Livingston is a hard place to go to, they showed that last season, and you know you’re going to have to battle for every ball.

“At times we showed quality as well, and managed to get two good goals.

“When we got it down and played, I could get into pockets and try to get on it, to get shots at goal, and I enjoyed it when we got it down and played.

“It’s always nice to score goals, but the main thing is to get three points. I thought we deserved to win, and it’s great to get the win after going down so early, to come back at a difficult venue.

“It was nice to get the goal to get us back on track.”

Templeton says Munro isn’t the only talented kid coming through the ranks at Hamilton, and he was delighted to see the 18-year-old grab a winner on his full debut.

He said: “There are loads of good young players, it’s always the same here every year, they always produce good players.

“It’s good to see Kyle getting the goal, which will give him confidence in future, and I’m delighted for him. He’s a young kid who works hard every day in training and you can see that.”
