Violent offenders targeted

This week our local officers have been busy targeting violent offenders and persons involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

On September 16, police were called to a disturbanc­e at Bruce Terrace, Blantyre. On attending, officers were confronted by a female who then went on to allegedly assault the officers by scratching and kicking them. A 32-year-old female was arrested, charged and held in custody for court.

Also on that day, police attended an address in West Clyde Street Larkhall in relation to ongoing bail and curfew checks. A 34-year-old male was identified within a vehicle near to the address as an alleged offender breaching his curfew. He was later traced, arrested and held in custody for court.

On September 17, police were called to a disturbanc­e at a licenced premises in Hamilton town centre where it was reported that a member of staff had allegedly been assaulted by a female. A 26-year-old female suspect was traced, arrested and thereafter allegedly assaulted police whilst resisting arrest. The female was charged and held in custody for court.

Also on that day, police attended at Hamilton Bus Station due to reports of concern for a male. On arrival they observed a 53-year-old male under the influence who stated that he had consumed a quantity of drugs and alcohol. He was conveyed to hospital and later arrested for breach of bail.

On September 18, police had cause to stop and speak with a male acting suspicious­ly in Muir Street, Larkhall. A 21-year-old male was searched under S.23 MDA 1971 and a total of

710 assorted tablets suspected to be class A & C drugs were recovered. The tablets have been sent for analysis and if positive for controlled drugs, a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

On September 4 two masked males allegedly entered the BP petrol station on Burnbank Road, Hamilton. One male was allegedly in possession of a knife and demanded money and cigarettes, and the suspects then left with an undisclose­d sum of money and some cigarettes. No-one was injured as a result of this.

This week suspects were identified and traced as a result of the joint work conducted by our local violence reduction unit and Community Officers. Both suspects have been arrested and charged in relation to this incident and will be appearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court in due course.
