- MATT BRYAN

Donations are being welcomed for a new charity boutique store opening in Bothwell.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s new branch will be located in the old bank building on 73-75 Main Street on October 1.

The charity is inviting volunteers to work in the shop and will host a recruitment day onthursday, September 24, between 10am and 2pm.

The launch of the new store will not only help patients suffering from a chest, heart or stroke condition through raising vital funds, but will offer a“unique shopping experience”for the customer with the store chain renowned for its hidden gems, one of a kind labels and vintage finds.

Customers will have the chance to get their hands on quirky boutiques, high-quality womenswear, menswear, accessories and bric-a-brac, with all proceeds going to the worthy cause.

The shop have prioritised safety in opening during the pandemic with significant measures in place to protect customers. Shop manager, Caitlin Gilroy, said:“we are delighted to be opening a new boutique store in Bothwell. We have received great support from the local community already with lots of interest in the new shop and people handing in some wonderful donations.

“We have significant safety measures in place to protect customers, volunteers and staff and have a new system for receiving and handling all our donations.

“All stock will be quarantined for 72 hours to reduce the risk of contamination and stock will be carefully dated with sorting areas in store to allow a safe processing system. We have installed cough screens, hand sanitising stations and will be limiting the amount of people allowed in the shop at any one time. Masks will be provided for all staff and volunteers and we will be offering contactless payments and cash.

“We want people to know that their donation means more to us than just a donation, it means that with your help, we can continue to support people across Scotland to do more than survive. Every donation will help someone to get from hospital to home – and really live again.we would be thrilled to receive donations Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm until we open then we will need to change our drop off times to between 10 to 11am or 4 to 5pm.”

Ruth Zokas, volunteer Recruiter at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, added:“we are looking forward to welcoming people to the recruitment day and giving out information about all the amazing volunteer roles that are available in our new store whether it’s on the shop floor, in the stockroom, a volunteer driver or our new role as a welcoming Covid-19 Champion. There is such a buzz within the team about this shop.

“As a volunteer you will help us to make a real difference to people living with chest, heart and stroke conditions. You will not only change people’s lives, but you’ll be making a huge difference to your own health and wellbeing, it’s a‘win-win’for everyone.”

If you can’t make it on September 24 you can register your interest at volunteering@chss.org.uk or call Ruth on 07435 785998.
