Man battered partner then said: ‘Let’s go to bed’

A brute battered his partner then said ‘Right baby, let’s go to bed’.

But Edward Forbes promptly fell asleep while frightened Jean King spent the rest of the night on the settee.

Forbes, 39, of Anguswalk,tannochside, was jailed for 16 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

He admitted charges of domestic assault, threatening or abusive behaviour and possession of a knife.the court heard

Forbes and Ms King had a heavy drinking session at his flat on April 29.

It continued into the early hours and led to a row over a photograph.

Jennifer Mclaren, prosecuting, said violence flared about 4am.

Ms King was punched several times on the face and body during a sustained attack.

Ms Mclaren told the court:“the accused eventually stopped the assault and said ‘Right baby, let’s go to bed’.

“He made his way to the bedroom and fell asleep. She was too afraid to leave the flat and had no means of transport, so she slept in the lounge.”

The next day Ms King’s sonthomas turned up out of concern for his mother.

Forbes, on the other side of the controlled door at the block of flats, warned him that he was a“dead man”and battered the door so hard with a knife that the blade fell off.

There was a scuffle outside after Mr King dialled 999.

He punched Forbes and kneed him in the face before running off. Police arrived to find Forbes“heavily intoxicated”and covered in blood from cuts and bruises, some inflicted by Ms King as she tried to defend herself.

Ms King herself was taken to hospital where a broken orbital eye bone was diagnosed. She had extensive bruising around the eye and blurred vision.

As well as jailing Forbes, Sheriff Colin Dunipace imposed a non-harassment order, banning him from any contact with Ms King for two years.
