Accies sign Stirling

Former Hibs midfielder joins club

-

Hamilton Accies’new signing Ben Stirling admits midfielders Scott Martin and Alex Gogic played a major role in his decision to sign for the club.

Stirling this week agreed a deal to sign for the New Douglas Park club, subject to clearance.

The 22-year-old, who came through the youth system at Easter Road, enjoyed successful loan spells at Championship clubs Arbroath and Alloa Athletic before making the move to South Lanarkshire.

He says the presence of Martin, who also joined from Hibs in 2018, and talking to Gogic, who made a move in the opposite direction during the summer, made a big difference in his decision to join Brian Rice’s side.

Stirling told the club’s website: “the amount of youth players this club brings through and develops is something I want to be a part of.

“When Brian Rice phoned me I knew this was the club where I want to develop and hopefully get my chance.

“Looking at Scott coming here from Hibs, playing week in and week out, it gave me that extra incentive to make the move and follow in his footsteps and try to nail down a starting position in the first team.”

On Gogic’s influence, Stirling said: “I spoke to Goga on Friday and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club.

“He came here for a few years and loved every minute of it. After my first training session, I can see why.”

Stirling, a former Scotland U17 cap, should be eligible for selection in Hamilton’s match against Hibs at Easter Road tomorrow evening.
