Colin eyes up C1 racing crown

-

Hamilton racer Colin Main has set his sights on the Scottish C1 Championship, having only entered a car into the competition last year.

Main and cousin Ross Dunn have each put a car into the budget racing competition, which gives people a chance to own their own racing car, become a race driver and compete in circuit racing at Knockhill in Fife.

The duo took first and second in each of the first two rounds at Knockhill on September 12 and 13, will race over the weekend of October 12 and 13, and at the end of this month to complete the programme, which has been compressed into six rounds because of Covid-19.

Former rally driver Colin was delighted with that result, and says it brings to an end a frustrating period of not being able to race.

He said: “my cousin Ross and I shared one car last year, so over the winter we got a second car and built that up for the new season.

“To have all of that put on hold until now has been really frustrating, so it was good to get out and blow off the cobwebs, and we did really well.

“It was a clean sweep and it was excellent, a really good weekend.”

Racers were given the option of racing in the reduced season, or not at all, and Main is pleased to be able to get back into their Citroen C1 later this month.

“The Scottish Motor Racing Club asked members how they felt about a reduced season. Feedback was mixed, but the majority were in favour,”hes aid.

“We had a really good first day’s racing and it was good to be back.”
