Large-scale appeal from SPCA

- LEONA GREENAN

Staff at Hamilton’s animal rescue centre are appealing for people to take on the overlooked reptiles in their care.

The Scottish SPCA have been looking after Hammy the corn snake since May 2019 at the base on Bothwell Road.

And Conrad, also a corn snake, has been there since the beginning of April.

Reptile Awareness Day was last Wednesday, October 21, and the charity wanted to highlight the two male snakes.

Gillian Boyle, centre manager, said: “These animals would make great additions to a home but sadly they keep getting overlooked, as do many reptiles who come into our care.

Snakes

“Poor Hammy has been waiting over a year to find his forever home.

“He would benefit from an experienced snake owner, who can help build his confidence with people, and provide him with all the equipment he needs for a happy and healthy life.

“Conrad came into our care as a stray. Unfortunately, no one came forward for him and he has been looking for a new home ever since.

“He has quite a shy personality, and was in poor condition when he was found as he was in the middle of having a bad shed.

“After sometlc, a few nice baths and warm accommodation with some proper food he is now fighting fit and ready to find his new home.

“In light of Reptile Awareness Day coming up we are hoping to find the perfect homes for Hammy and Conrad. After spending so long in our centre, they deserve to finally find their happy ever afters.”
