More free ATMS for Larkhall

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

Larkhall has two more free ATMS, as part of a commitment to support communities who need access to cash.

LINK, the UK’S main cash machine network, helped switch two existing pay-to-use machines in Hareleeshill and Ashgill.

It followed a request from Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley,

Ms Crawley said:“people budgeting on a low income, older people and those who are not as confident with advances in digital banking are those most impacted by these rip-off charges.

“That is why I welcome the addition of free-to-use cash machines in Hareleeshill and Ashgill and thank LINK for their investment in my constituency.”

The new free-to-use ATMS are located at Costcutter, 40a Hareleeshill Road and Ashgill Mini Market.

LINK’S head of commercial initiatives, Ian Vernon, said:“free cash access remains vital for communities and high streets across the country. Cash use and ATM withdrawals, unsurprisingly fell in recent months, but there is still strong demand for cash even during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to hear from more communities that have cash access issues. While the network provides convenient access for most people, we know that communities are best placed to identify any issues, including if people are forced to pay to access cash. Any enquiries can be made via our request website.”

Just last month, tsb bank announced it would be pulling out of the town, sparking concerns about access to cash.the Union Street bank will shut its doors on April 7, 2021.
