Women face pivotal spell for title tilt

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

Hamilton Accieswomen face three massive games in seven days that will indicate where their SWPL2 title credentials lie.

That starts with a‘derby’at home to Glasgowwomen this Sunday, before trips to Partickthistle onwednesday and St Johnstone on November 8.

Only Hamilton and Aberdeen so far have a 100 per cent record from two games, with the Dons ahead on goal-difference, whilethistle, Glasgow and Saints sit immediately below Accies.

Gary Doctor’s side clinched three hard-fought points at Kilmarnock on Sunday, with Georgie Mctear’s late strike earning them a 1-0 win at Rugby Park.

And assistant Bobbywatson hopes they can keep that run going.

He said:“glasgowwomen is always a game we look forward to and we expect a tough game.

“We could go top with a win, and doing that at any point is brilliant, but if we don’t follow it up with a victory in midweek then it doesn’t really count for anything.

“We want to win every game and take it from there. A slow start in 2019 probably cost us promotion against Hearts because there was only six points in it and it took us three games to win, so starting with two wins is really positive and we’re very much looking forward to the week ahead.”

Watson says there were plenty of positives to take from the win at Kilmarnock, but still a bit to work on as well.

“It was a tough game, Kilmarnock made it difficult but I think over the piece we always felt we were going to get a goal and Georgie took it brilliantly,”he said.

“It’s a place we’ve always found it tough to go to, and have always been given tough games down there, so we’re delighted to come away with a clean sheet and three points.

“There were aspects that were better; we’re not quite there yet, but we are trying to put the right things in place and we are getting there.”
