Be ready for winter this year

-

With the clocks recently going back, it’s another reminder that winter is coming.

This can mean changes to road conditions, which can affect everybody from pedestrians and cyclists to motorists.

As daylight hours change and the weather becomes more unpredictable, Police Scotland is here throughout to keep people safe.

I would encourage drivers to check their vehicles before we experience the first of the wintry conditions.

Some simple steps can be taken to prepare, such as checking lights on vehicles to make sure they are in good working order, ensure tyres have sufficient tread, check windscreen washer fluid levels and look out scrapers for clearing frost and ice from your vehicle.

As the nights get darker, I would also ask pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to ensure they are visible to other road users.

Last weekend our community officers conducted extra patrols within the community as part of a joint initiative with South Lanarkshire Council. We work closely with all our partners to tackle local issues, problematic areas, and repeat offenders.

We utilised our Stop Search powers and also executed drugs search warrants resulting in the seizure of class A, B and C controlled drugs.

Our close management of offenders has also resulted in the arrest of nine males for allegedly breaching their bail/curfew, for which they were held custody for court.

Tackling youth disorder is always a priority and this was also achieved with fixed penalty tickets issued for street drinking, alcohol seized and disruptive youths returned home by police.

In the early hours of November 4, at Carlisle Road, Larkhall, police observed a male acting suspicious within a garden.

When approached the male allegedly became aggressive towards police, threatened them with a glass ashtray, resisted arrest and spat on officers. A 22-year-old male was arrested, charged and held in custody for court.

On November 5 police attended at Springwell Crescent, Blantyre due to reports of a disturbance with knives involved.

A 15-year-old youth was detained for a search and allegedly became aggressive towards police attempting to headbutt officers.

He was arrested and later released for report.

If you have any relevant information or matters you feel should be reported to police, you can do so by calling ‘101’, or via Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.
