Hamilton councillor selected to stand in constituency
The SNP revealed this week that Hamilton North and East Councillor Stephanie Callaghan is to become the SNP’S candidate for Uddingston and Bellshill in the Holyrood election next year.
Stephanie has already promised to make herself heard after being selected and said: “Firstly, a huge thank you to SNP members across Uddingston and Bellshill constituency for choosing me as their SNP candidate for next year’s Scottish Parliament election.
“I was delighted to have a very strong vote and special thanks go to my fellow nominees – all strong and inspiring women – for the clean, open and positive contest we’ve delivered.
“Standing for election is never easy, especially if you are a woman, and achieving candidate gender-balance reflects the SNP’S wider commitment to equality.
“This constituency is my home and I was born five minutes from where I now live. I care deeply about our people, our communities, and our history, and working here as an elected councillor means I know what matters locally. Being a mum to three school-age kids, I want a fairer more equal country for all our children.
“That’s why my belief that Scotland must become an independent country as soon as possible is unshakeable.
“Our First Minister’s effective leadership throughout this pandemic has been inspired by genuine empathy, kindness and compassion. If I am elected as MSP I promise to be a voice for all who live here.
“Uddingston and Bellshill constituency boundary also includes all of Thorniewood, Mossend, Holytown and Bothwell, and parts of North Motherwell, Blantyre and Hamilton. I will work tirelessly across every area to strengthen our SNP majority and move forward towards independence.”
