He was released in 1968 and returned to the junior game with Larkhallthistle, and later Stonehouseviolet in 1970.

Latterly he played for amateur side Avonvilla.

He leaves his widow Catrina, grand-daughterterri Daly and great-granddaughter Katey.

Vic, who worked in a number of professions including steelworks and the dairy trade, was described as a real family man, and essentially raised his grand-daughterterri.

Catrinawardrop said:“he was the type of person who would just say things – whatever he thought just came out his mouth, but he got on with everyone.we have a grand-daughterterri and great-granddaughter Katey, he just loved them.

“Terri grew up, and when wee Katey came along all of that got transferred on to her. She cheered him up when he was feeling ill – she was the apple of his eye.”

Catrina added:“in his days of playing football you had to work; he had a milk round and was in the steelworks, and Accies was only part-time.

“He loved it, but he was working night shift and all those sorts of things – they didn’t get a chance in those days, they weren’t fit for training and things like that.”

Grand-daughterterri said: “He still played even up until his 60s. He taught me all I know about football – that was his biggest passion.”
