Warning over quad bike use

-

The dangers of using quad bikes and scrambler bikes without a licence or using them in public places have been well publicised in recent years.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of complaints made to Police Scotland regarding their use across Lanarkshire.

Members of the public have also expressed concern for the safety of the riders, the noise nuisance and for the safety of the public using roads, footpaths or parks where they are ridden.

These bikes are only road legal, if roadworthy, licenced and insured, and the rider has the necessary licence. This does not allow them to be ridden on areas of public land where others can be put in danger.

Quad bikes and scramblers can be used on official sites or on private land, with the permission of the landowner.

South Lanarkshire has seen a small rise in the number of incidents relating to their use in the areas of Morgan

Glen and Donaldson Road, Larkhall, Woodhead area of Hamilton and also in Coalburn and Douglas.

Police Scotland will continue to target these issues. I encourage the public to get in touch with us if you know who is using quads and dirt bikes illegally or irresponsibly.
