Weekly Covid-19 cases in South Lanarkshir­e fell by almost a fifth last week.

Figures published by Public Health Scotland revealed that there were 737 new cases in the region between Sunday, November 8 and Saturday, November 14 – the lowest weekly total since the end of September.

Last week was the third consecutiv­e week that new case numbers fell in the region after peaking at 1,266.

The Hamilton area remains the region’s Covid hotspot after 275 cases were confirmed in the region – down by more than a quarter in a week.

Cases in East Kilbride and Avondale fell to 222 while there were 168 in Rutherglen and Cambuslang and 72 in Clydesdale.

Last week, the Hamilton area recorded 2.72 cases per 1,000 residents.

Rutherglen and Cambuslang saw 2.67 cases per 1,000 residents while East Kilbride and Avondale (2.32) and Clydesdale (1.19) saw lower rates.

Little Earnock was the neighbourh­ood with the most new cases in South Lanarkshir­e last week, at 27.

That equates to 3.98 cases per 1,000 residents however, Woodhead and Meikle Earnock - which saw 17 new cases - had the highest rate per 1,000 residents at 6.96 because of it’s smaller population.

Uddingston and Gardenside (26), Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard (26),Westburn and Newton (24) and Nerston and EK Landward area (24) were the only other neighbourh­oods to see more than 20 cases last week.

Forth, Braehead and Auchengray saw the most new cases in Clydesdale at nine.

Last week, 54 of the 82 neighbourh­oods in South Lanarkshir­e saw less than ten new cases. Clydesdale South was also the first neighbourh­ood in South Lanarkshir­e to see no new cases of coronaviru­s for a full week for more than a month.
