Cairns rewarded for ‘dedication’

George Cairns has been promoted to the role of academy director at Hamilton Accies for his‘dedication, hard-work and commitment’to the club.

Cairns was previously head of youth at the New Douglas Park club, having been a coach there since 2005.

He has helped nurture a host of top talent including the likes of James Mccarthy, James Mcarthur and Lewis Ferguson.

Kyle Munro is one of several players who have broken through to the first-team in recent seasons.

Chairman Allan Maitland, who previously held the role, told the club’s website:“george is a magnificen­t character for this club to have.

“He is involved at every level and knows our core vales inside and out.

“We are delighted to highlight how important George has been to our Academy set-up and how important he will continue to be going forward, as we continue to produce talent from our successful youth academy.”

A delighted George Cairns told the club website:“i’m delighted with the support I have had over the years from our board of directors, which makes my job that little bit easier, knowing you have the full backing of them with the trust and support that they have shown me.

“For me the job never stops, you’re always supporting the players at every level, whether that’s on the park or off it.

“It’s a role you must live and breathe, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of the success of the crops of talent produced by this club, and goal is to continue to do exactly that.”
