More than 1000 Lanarkshire people grabbed the opportunity to be vaccinated against Covid-19 at the weekend as they attended a clinic put on at short notice.

Those aged over 80, who were still waiting to be vaccinated, were encouraged to attend an additional clinic that had been put on.

NHS Lanarkshire posted on social media on Friday that it was being run in the Alistair Mccoist Complex in East Kilbride.

NHS Lanarkshire stated:“if you, or someone you know, is aged 80 or over and hasn’t received an appointment for the Covid-19 vaccine yet, we are holding an additional clinic this weekend.

“We have just received additional vaccines and we want to vaccinate as many people as quickly and safely as possible.

“If you are in this age group and can make it to the Alistair Mccoist Complex in East Kilbride on Sunday, January 31, call 01698 687447 between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 30 January, to make an appointment.

“This clinic is only for people registered with Lanarkshire GP practices. Please do not make an appointment if you have Covid-19 symptoms, or have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 28 days.

“This is not a drop-in clinic – you must have an appointment. If needed, someone can attend the appointment with you.

“When you arrive at the clinic, please wear a face covering (unless you are medically exempt) and adhere to social distancing. Please follow directions and staff will guide you safely through the clinic.”

The clinic appeared to be busy, with a number of people taking up the opportunity to get the vaccination

Dr Mark Russell, associate medical director for Health and Social

Care North Lanarkshire, who is leading on the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine in Lanarkshire, said: “NHS Lanarkshire held additional over-80s clinics during the weekend of January 30 and 31.

“We had received additional vaccines and this was to help us vaccinate as many people as quickly and as safely as possible.

“Over the weekend we vaccinated almost 1000 people and we would like to thank everyone who was able to make it along at such short notice.”
